What to Do after a Car Accident in Tampa, Orlando, Lakeland,
Pasco, Sarasota & Across Central Florida
A car accident is a jolting experience.
Whether you’re involved in a rear-end accident in Tampa, a
rollover in Orlando, or an intersection accident in Lakeland,
it’s very difficult to focus on what you should do in the
hours and days following the accident.
Considering the fact that almost 350,000
drivers per year are involved in Florida car accidents, a
car crash could happen to any one of us at any time. And,
since more than 200,000 people are injured or killed in Florida
auto accidents, knowing what to do in the moments following
an accident could make a difference between life and death.
At Kennedy Law Group, we have spoken to
many accident victims in Tampa, Orlando, Pasco, Lakeland,
Sarasota, and throughout Central Florida. At the time of their
crash, many of these folks were unaware of the correct steps
to take, which often had a negative impact on their car accident
case. To help solve this issue, our car accident lawyers recommend
the following top 10 post-accident tips:
- 1. Call 911 right away to report car
accident injuries. If there are no injuries, call 911
so that they can dispatch police to the scene to file a
report and also prevent further accidents from happening.
- 2. If possible, pull damaged vehicles
to the side of the road, out of the way of traffic.
- 3. Gather names, addresses, and phone
numbers from everyone at the scene, especially drivers and
witnesses.
- 4. Get insurance, drivers license, and
license plate numbers from the other drivers involved in
the accident.
- 5. Take pictures of vehicle damage and
the accident scene. Use your cell phone camera if you need
to.
- 6. While it’s still fresh in your mind,
write down a description of each car involved (year, make,
model, color) as well as a detailed explanation of how the
collision happened. Make a diagram of the accident, too.
- 7. Go to the hospital emergency room
to get checked out, even if you don’t think you are seriously
injured.
- 8. Call your insurance company to report
the accident, but do not make a recorded statement or talk
to an adjuster about car
accident settlements until you speak to an attorney.
- 9. Call various car accident lawyers
to receive legal advice about your accident.
- 10. Make sure to go to follow up visits
with your doctor and document all medical care you receive.
