Car Accident Attorneys Remind You to be Cautious When Driving in Bad Weather in Tampa, St Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Orlando, and Central Florida

Florida is hurricane country, and our car accident attorneys have seen far too many drivers become injured driving in bad weather because they did not take a couple simple precautions. But by following a few basic steps, driving a vehicle in rain, fog, or even high wind can be made safer. If done correctly, driving “defensively” in the face of bad weather will keep you – and other drivers – safe.

Here are some techniques you can apply in certain weather conditions:

  • Rain – Slow down and turn on your headlights. In especially heavy or torrential rain, pull into a parking lot or side street and wait for the weather to improve. Check your windshield wipers periodically and replace them if they are frayed or broken.
  • Wind – Slow down. Avoid driving alongside or immediately behind high-profile vehicles like semi trucks or very large SUVs. Watch for debris on the road.
  • Hurricane – Slow down and drive away from low-lying areas. If there is a hurricane evacuation route in your area, take it. Listen to your car’s AM/FM radio for additional warnings or instructions. Avoid driving unless it is absolutely necessary or if you have been told to evacuate.

The car accident attorneys at Kennedy Law Group want you to practice good driving habits in any type of weather. We realize, however, that accidents do happen despite our best intentions.
